SCOUTING TROY
Troy started the season 4-0 for the first time in the program's Division I history. The headlining win was at Florida State, 79-72. Since then, the Trojans have dropped results to St. Thomas, Arkansas, SIUE, and San Diego State. Following a three-game losing streak, Troy beat Tennessee Tech and Southeastern Louisiana.
The Trojans are led by fourth-year head coach Scott Cross. Troy had a postseason win last year after a much-improved 2021-22 campaign. The Trojans were picked to finish 10th in the 2022-23 Sun Belt Preseason Poll while senior Zay Williams was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Third Team.
Five players are averaging double-figure scoring totals for the Trojans. Nelson Phillips boasts an impressive 29 steals which ranks second in the Sun Belt. Preventing fast breaks will be key for the Bears as Troy averages 16.6 fast break points in its wins and only 5.5 in transition in its losses.
