Bears on the Road Against FGCU

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's basketball program is back on the road to face Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, December 10 at 7 p.m. at Alico Arena. This is the first road game in two weeks for the Bears after having back-to-back home games for the first time this season.

Mercer leads the all-time series with FGCU 13-6 overall and 5-4 in Fort Myers. The series includes many years of contests in the ASUN and multiple meetings in the ASUN Tournament. The Bears are 1-1 under head coach Greg Gary against the Eagles. Mercer won in 2019, 84-68, in Macon and dropped the most recent matchup at FGCU in 2021, 67-55.

SCOUTING FLORIDA GULF COAST
FGCU is off to an excellent 7-3 start to the season under new head coach Pat Chambers. The Eagles opened the season with a win against Southern California and have only recorded losses to San Diego, Tennessee, and FAU. Florida Gulf Coast was on a five-game winning streak until the most recent loss to FAU on Wednesday, 85-53.

The Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the ASUN in both the coaches and media preseason polls. Junior guard Chase Johnston was named to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team yet has not started a single game for the Eagles this season. Isaiah Thompson currently leads the team in points while Zach Anderson has the team-lead in rebounds.

RECENT ACTION
With a thundering 100-62 win over Middle Georgia State, the 2022-23 Mercer squad became only the 15^th in program history to record multiple 100-point scoring games in a season. Jalyn McCreary led the Bears in scoring with 25 points collected in only 12 minutes on the court. He went 12-13, setting career highs in points and FGM for the third time this season.

The Bears also set another program record this season with 31 assists logged against the Knights. Luis Hurtado Jr., who is ranked ninth in the country for assists this season, had a team-high seven against Middle Georgia State. Mercer also only surrendered six turnovers, boosting the team's assist/turnover ratio to 1.58 which currently ranks 10^th in the nation.
