Mercer downs Mount St. Mary's by a 12-11 margin
EMMITSBURG, Md. – In a back-and-forth battle, Mercer found its offense when they needed it most, as they took a 12-11 road win over Mount St. Mary's.
Sean Goldsmith's four scores led the Mercer offense to their second road win of the season. Khory Reid added a pair while six – Nick Rockefeller, Parker Junod, Matthew Winegardner, Carl Klepper, Brent Bishop and Kyle Cox – scored one apiece.
When down 7-6 in the late stages of the third, the Bears (3-4) used four goals to power past the Mountaineers (3-5) when Goldsmith, Reid and Rockefeller tallied scores for the 10-7 advantage.
Just over three minutes into the game, Klepper broke open the scoring to give the Bears a 1-0 lead on an unassisted strike, before the hosts would draw even a little more than 90 seconds later. With 7:06 left in the opening frame, Junod delivered a pass to Bishop, who shot it past the Mountaineers' Griffin McGinley for the 2-1 lead. Mount St. Mary's would score the next four before Goldsmith tallied a score six minutes into the second to cut the deficit to 5-3. After another goal by the hosts, Goldsmith and Junod each scored to trim the Mountaineers' halftime lead to 6-5.

Defense was the theme of the third, as the teams split the three scored, but it was Mercer who had more in the period. Cox and Reid tallied them for the Bears as they brought the game to a draw leading into the final frame. The strikes came with 3:58 and 0:19 left in the quarter.
Mercer kept their momentum from the third into the fourth when Reid struck for his second unanswered goal give the Bears their first lead since being up 1-0. 47 seconds later, Rockefeller added one to go up 9-7 and was quickly followed by Goldsmith's completed hat trick for a 10-7 lead just 15 ticks later.
Mount St. Mary's countered with three unanswered to tie the game until Winegardner's strike off a Cox assist with 4:04 left for an 11-10 lead. After a final tying goal from the hosts at the 2:47 mark of the game, Goldsmith's goal at 1:55 gave Mercer one final lead that they would hold onto.
