Bears fall to Utah in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Mercer battled hard with the Utah Utes in the first half before the hosts pulled away for a 23-9 win from Ute Field on Saturday afternoon.

Nick Rockefeller and Matt Winegardner led the Bears (3-7) with two goals apiece in the effort. In addition to the scores, Winegardner also helped with an assist. Kyle Cox, Sean Goldsmith, Cole Leggett, Tim Kroneberger and Matt O'Connor also added goals for Mercer on the afternoon.

Wes Chairs and Connor Purcell led the Orange & Black with three ground balls scooped, and Purcell led with a pair of turnovers caused.

Colin Kelley and Jake Meyer split time in the cage and the pair combined for 13 saves on the afternoon.

Mercer will open league play with VMI in a road tilt next Saturday. Opening faceoff with the Keydets is slated for a Noon start.
