Home event highlights slate
Mercer head men's and women's cross country coach Josh Hayman has announced the 2022 schedule, a seven-event slate this fall.
Â
"This fall season is shaping up to be one of our best schedules yet in my time here at Mercer," said Hayman. "We will have some really strong competitions, particularly with the Live in Lou Classic. Our goal is to sharpen us up for the challenges ahead in the championship season. I am also proud to announce our return to hosting the Julius Johnson Invitational after a year off from having a competition here in Macon. For the majority of our current team, this will be their first opportunity to race at home."Â
Â
Mercer will start its season at Appalachian State's Covered Bridge Open in Boone, North Carolina, on Sept. 2.
Two weeks later, the Bears will host and compete in the Julius Johnson Invitational on Sept. 16 at the Georgia Premier Cross-Country Course.
The program will start its October slate on Oct. 1 when the Bears take part in the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic, hosted by Louisville. Mercer will then wrap up the regular season in the Palmetto State, taking part in the USC Upstate Invitational on October 15.
Postseason gets underway in Johns Island, South Carolina, on Oct. 30 when the Southern Conference Championships take place.
Should anyone qualify for NCAA competition, Mercer would then venture to Huntsville, Alabama, on Nov. 11. Oklahoma State will host the NCAA Championships just eight days later.
The men are looking to build off their third-place finish at last year's SoCon Championships as they return all but two student-athletes. On the women's side, they return all team members but one.
