Bears Outside Hitter Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Macon, Ga.—Mercer volleyball coach Derek Schroeder is very succinct in describing the play of outside hitter Annie Karle at this past weekend's Stetson Invitational.
"She destroyed it," Schroeder said.
Her play has earned her recognition as the Southern Conference volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.Â
Karle's consistent attacking success helped the Bears to a 2-1 record in the three-match invitational. The Bears beat Bethune-Cookman and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville each 3-1 before dropping a 3-0 decision to host Stetson.
The 5-foot-11, graduate senior had her best effort against SIU-E. She had 22 kills and a .358 hitting percentage. For the tournament, Karle put away 41 kills at a .299 clip.
"Annie's been looking for a way to lead this team, and her competitiveness and determination, have been her way," Schroeder said. "Annie is just an incredible student athlete and teammate, and deserves everything she gets this season."
Karle and the rest of the Bears volleyball squad will head to Charlottesville, Virginia to play in the Virginia tournament September 16-17.
