
Jalyn McCreary Named SoCon Player of the Week

26 PPG, 9.5 Rebounds per Game against ETSU and The Citadel
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jalyn McCreary was named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after his stellar performances against ETSU and The Citadel, the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is McCreary's first career player of the week honor.
McCreary scored a career-high 26 points off the bench in both games to lead the Bears to back-to-back victories. He also snagged 12 rebounds in the 74-65 win over The Citadel for the second double-double of his career. He finished 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the field in 28 minutes against the Bulldogs.
In the 71-67 overtime win against ETSU, McCreary scored 10-straight points in the second half along with six points in overtime to guide Mercer to its second win over the Bucs this season. The redshirt junior also had a team-high seven rebounds in the contest. McCreary tied his career best of 12 field goals made (12-of-20, 60%), previously set against Middle Georgia State this season.
Across the pair of games, McCreary recorded three blocks, one steal, and one assist. He finished 6-for-6 from the free throw line on the week.
The Marietta, Georgia native is averaging 15.3 points per game which ranks sixth in the SoCon. He is fourth in the conference in field goal shooting with a 56.6% success rate. McCreary leads the team in rebounds with 5.7 per game and ranks sixth in the conference for offensive rebounding, averaging 2.2 offensive boards per game. Nine of his 19 rebounds during the week were offensive.
Mercer has won four of the last five games, including three on the road. The Bears are in action on Thursday, February 2 at 7 p.m. in Hawkins Arena against UNC Greensboro.
