Barrow, Fouilhoux Split On Day One Of ITA Southeast Regionals

ATLANTA – Senior Samuel Barrow and junior Marceau Fouilhoux both fell on the wrong end of a straight-sets decisions in their opening matches of the day, but rebounded with straight-sets decision of their own in the consolation tournament to key Day-1 action for the Mercer men's tennis team at the Georgia Tech-hosted ITA Southeast Regionals.
Barrow had his personal four-match win streak stopped with a 6-2, 6-3 decision to North Florida's Breno Marques, but advanced through to the consolation bracket's Round of 16 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over South Florida's Elijah Cham. Thursday's action also saw Barrow team up with Samuel MacLeod in the doubles tournament, but the Mercer duo walked away with a tough 8-7 tiebreak loss to Kennesaw State's Hugo Salmeron and Sam Baldwin.
Marceau Fouilhoux dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Central Florida's Francisco Llanes in his Thursday opener, but also advanced in the consolation round after posting a 7-6, 6-4 win over Florida Gulf Coast's C.J. Smith.
Mercer will continue competition at the scheduled 5-day event on Friday morning in the main draw of the doubles tournament. Fouilhoux and Nemanja Stefanovic are set to do battle with Florida Gulf Coast's Hugo Magnusson and Harry Michalowski at 9:15 a.m., weather permitting.
