
Mercer Advances To Quarterfinals With 1-0 Win Over The Citadel

Lena Dykes scored the game-winning goal for the Bears
MACON, Ga. – Lena Dykes scored the game-winning goal in the 21st minute and the Mercer women's soccer team shut out The Citadel 1-0 in the First Round of the SoCon Tournament Tuesday night at Betts Stadium.
With the win, the Bears advance to the quarterfinals where they will meet the No. 2 seed ETSU Buccaneers on Friday at 4 p.m. from Johnson City, Tenn.
Dykes scored in the 21st minute off a corner kick from Kendall Cook. The Citadel goalie got a hand on Dykes' header but couldn't keep it out of her net as the Bears claimed the early 1-0 lead.
It was just Dykes'Â second goal of the season as the defender also has three assist on the year. For Cook, it was her seventh assist of the season, tying her with Jada Moorman for the most assists on the team.
The Bears created chances throughout the game but couldn't find a second goal. Mercer outshot The Citadel 13-3, including a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Lindsay Bell earned her eighth shutout of the season in goal for the Bears.
