Men's Soccer Battles to Final Whistle Against Georgia State

MACON, GA. –The Mercer Bears would lose to Georgia State in the Battle of I-75 on Wednesday, October 4 at Betts Stadium in Macon, Georgia.Â
Mercer moves to 5-2-4 on the season, while Georgia State moves to 4-3-4 on the season. The Bears would start the game off behind early off a goal when a Georgia State free kick deflected off a Mercer player into the goal. The Bears would battled back and be inches offsides from evening the score at 1-1. Georgia State would use this call to move the ball quickly up the wing creating another scoring chance which that would bury. Mercer would continue to battle back from this deficit creating many opportunities for the forwards and midfielders. One of the opportunities the Bears created, lead to a free kick from 20-yards. Angel Gonzalez would step up and bury the shot into the top left corner in the 32nd minute. This would be the final goal scored in the match, putting the Bears behind 2-1. Mercer continued to battle in the second half, creating many opportunities from crossing balls that were met by Mercer forwards and midfielders who were able to place the headers on target. The Bears and Panthers continued to battle up until the final whistle, the game ended in a 2-1 defeat for Mercer.Â
