Tennis Teams Host 10th Annual Gridiron Classic This Weekend

MACON – The Mercer men's and women's tennis teams will unwrap the home portion of their 2023-24 schedules this weekend when the Bears suit up to play host to the 10th Annual Mercer Gridiron Classic. The 3-day tournament will take place at a pair of off-campus sites, and action will get underway each day at 8:30 a.m.

Nine men's teams are scheduled to compete in the men's portion of the tournament which will be held at the Drew Smith Tennis Center. Entries for the men's tournament include Alabama State, Auburn Montgomery, Flagler, Georgia College, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Middle Georgia State and Troy.

On the women's side of the draw, the Bears will be joined by Alabama State, Auburn Montgomery, Florida Southern, Georgia College, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Middle Georgia State, Tampa and West Georgia. The women's competition is slated to take place at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center.

The home event will mark the third tournament of the season for the Mercer men who posted a solid outing at the Samford Invitational last month before diving in to the Georgia-hosted Southern Intercollegiate Championships this past weekend. The Gridiron Classic will mark the first competition of the newest campaign for the Mercer women.

Admission to both sides of this weekend's tournament is free. Tournament draws are expected to be announced on Thursday afternoon.
