Mercer Claims 2-0 Win At VMI

Bears earn third consecutive conference win
LEXINGTON, Va. – Goals from Larkin Thomason and Keelin Pray and a sound defensive performance helped the Mercer women's soccer team defeat VMI, 2-0 on the road Thursday night, earning its third consecutive conference win.Â
Mercer came out on the attack early and created a few chances in the attacking third with Kendall Cook and Jada Moorman each taking multiple shots in the opening 10 minutes.
Freshman Larkin Thomason opened the scoring in the 28th minute as she scored on a loose ball in the box off a Cook corner kick for her 10th goal of the season.
The Bears limited VMI to just three shots in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Mercer had a few great chances to in the second half to push its lead to two goals with Moorman being denied on one occasion and Sara Engels hitting the crossbar in the 68th minute as well, but the score remained 1-0, Bears.
Pray finally got the second goal for the Bears in the 81st minute as she redirected a free kick off the short hop from Cook for her second goal in as many games.
Up next for the Bears is a home game on Sunday at 2 p.m. against current conference leader Western Carolina.
