
Big Second Half Carries Mercer To 20-9 Win Over Kennesaw State

Bears outscored Kennesaw State 12-3 in second half
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team outscored Kennesaw State 12-3 in the second half on its way to a 20-9 win over the Owls on Sunday afternoon.
Mercer had a decisive advantage in shots with a season-high 49 shots to Kennesaw State's 19. The Bears put 36 of their 49 shots on goal.
The Bears also had a big advantage in turnovers as Kennesaw State had 24 to Mercer's 10. Emma Pizzo had four caused turnovers, six ground balls, and four draw controls on the afternoon.
Shannon Urey led all players with six goals on eight shots. Lyndsey Lewis had a six-point game with three goals and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer opened the scoring with the first three goals of the game as a goal from Kileigh Casey made it 3-0 Mercer with more than six minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Kennesaw State made it 4-3 Mercer with 31 seconds to play in the first quarter, but Urey scored her second goal of the game with six seconds left in the first to make it 5-3 Mercer.
Mercer would take an 8-6 lead into halftime. Mercer got out to a great start to begin the third quarter, scoring four goals in the opening five minutes, including two goals from Urey – one as a man-up goal - and suddenly the Bears opened up their lead to 12-6.
After Kennesaw State got one back to make it 12-7, Mercer went on an 8-0 run to put the game away.
