Bears Go 3-1 on the Weekend

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears Beach Volleyball team went 3-1 at the Jacksonville University Tournament this past Friday and Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida.
FRIDAY, MARCH 24
JACKSONVILLE UNIVERSITY | 10:00 AM
The Mercer Bears fell to Jacksonville University 3-2 in their first matches of the tournament.
Mercer's Lexi Polychrones and Jordan Paddock would fall in two matches against Jacksonville's McNamara and Kubicsko. The score of the first set was 21-14 and the score of the second set was 21-15. Nicole O'Mara and Kate Hardie would defeat Jacksonville's Eckhardt and Szyskiewicz in two straight sets. The score of the first set was 21-18 and would win the second 21-15. Sydney Benson and Jordyn Thomas-Warren would fall in three sets to Jacksonville's Dunbar and Nika. The score of the first was 21-18, and the score of the second was 11-21. The Bears would battle but would lose the final set 15-12. Kathryn Corbett and Alyssa Scoggins would win their match against Jacksonville's Hart and Cunningham in three sets. The score of the first was 21-23, the score of the second was 21-12 and the score of the final set was 15-10. Skylar Kelly and Hollis Engel would lose their match against Jacksonville's Knifton and Sacristan.

The Mercer Bears would beat Jacksonville State University 5-0 in their second match of the tournament.
Polychrones and Paddock would dominate Jacksonville State's Danzinger and Wilkinson and would win in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-14 and the score of the second was 21-15. O'Mara and Hardie would battle State's Schiffli and Fuell. The score of the first set was 22-20, the score of the second 11-21, and the score of the final was 15-8. Benson and Thomas-Warren would handle State's Smith and Phenicie in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-10 and the score of the second was 21-6. Corbett and Reese Hood would win in two sets against State's Amicon and Lynch. The score of the first set was 21-7 and the score of the second was 21-14.
SATURDAY, MARCH 25

The Mercer Bears dominated Jacksonville State University 5-0 in their first matches of day two of the tournament.
Polychrones and Paddock would beat State's Danzinger and Wilkinson in two sets. The score of the first was 21-14 and the score of the second set was 21-15. O'Mara and Hardie would defeat State's Schiffli and Fuell in three sets. The score of the first set was 22-20, the score of the second set was 11-21 and the bears would come out on top winning the final set 15-8. Benson and Thomas-Warren would hand State's Smith and Phenicie in two sets. The score of the first was 21-10 and the score of the second was 21-6. Corbett and Hood would defeat State's Amicon and Lynch in two straight sets. The score of the first set was 21-7 and the score of the second was 21-14.

Benson and Thomas-Warren would lose a close battle to Jacksonville's Eckhardt and Szyszkiewicz in a three-set match. The score of the first set was 21-19, the score of the second was 19-21 and the score of the final set was 20-18. O'Mara and Hardie would defeat Jacksonville's Dunbar and Nika in three sets. The score of the first set was 21-13, the score of the second was 21-23, and the bears took home the final set 15-12. Jacksonville's Knifton and Sacristan would defeat Mercer's Corbett and Hood in a close match. The score of the first was 21-16 and the score of the second was 21-19. Engel and Morris would defeat Jacksonville's Hart and Cunningham in a three-set game. The score of the first was 21-13, the score of the second was 19-21 and the score of the final set was 15-12.
"Team showed a lot of resolve and perseverance this weekend," said Coach Marsh. "The buy-in to our system is starting to manifest in solid performances that are resulting in wins. We started with an extremely challenging strength of schedule and the early adversity and close losses are starting to pay off. Excited for the continued evolution of this great group of student athletes!"
UP NEXT: The Bears will travel to Birmingham, Alabama on Friday, March 31 to battle in the UAB invitational.
