
Bears Fought Hard at Day of Duals

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Mercer Bears beach volleyball team went 0-3 at the Day of Duals this past Wednesday, March 8 at the Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 8
#4 FLORIDA STATE | 12:00 PM
The Mercer Bears fell to Florida State University 0-5 at the Day of Duals.
Lexi Polychrones and Jordan Paddock would battle hard against FSU's Anderson Twins. Polychrones and Paddock would lose the first set 21-18 and would force extra points in the second set and lose an extremely close match 25-23. Nicole O'Mara and Kate Hardie would lose a tough match against FSU's Log and White. The score of the first set was 21-11 and the score for the second was 21-16. Sydney Benson and Jordyn Thomas-Warren would battle in their match against FSU's Koeing and Polo. They would force extra points in their first match but would sadly lose 20-22. Benson and Thomas-Warren would lose the second set, 21-16. Alyssa Scoggins and Hollis Engel would lose their match to FSU's Durish and Morgan Chacon in two sets. The score of the first set was 21-14 and the score for the second was 21-8. Reese Hood and Kathryn Corbett would lose their match against FSU's Rothman and Charles in two sets. The score of the first was 21-13 and the score of the second was 21-12. Skyler Kelly and Mary Callahan would battle against FSU's Hilton and Sassack. They would lose the first one 21-12 and would lose the second 21-14.
#20 COASTAL CAROLINA | 2:00 PM
The Mercer Bears fell to Coastal Carolina 2-3 at the Day of Duals.
Polychrones and Paddock would force an extra set against Coastal's Kragholm and Riedel. The Bears would win the first set in a dominant fashion winning 14-21. The Bears would drop the next set, 21-13. Mercer would force extra points in the final set, but sadly would lose a close set, losing 17-15. O'Mara and Hardie would defeat Coastal's Hanford and Lichty in two straight sets. The Bears would dominate the first, winning 21-10. That dominance would continue, winning the second set 21-19. Benson and Thomas-Warren would bring home Mercer's second win of the day. They would defeat Coastal's Sanchez and Svobodova in three sets. The Bears would lose the first set 13-21, however, they continued to fight winning the second set 21-13. Their dominance continued in the final set when Benson and Thomas-Warren would win 15-10. Scoggins and Engel would lose in two sets to Coastal's Allred and Ehlers. The score of the first set was 21-15 and the score of the second was 21-11. Hood and Corbett would lose two tight sets against Coastal's Gonzales and Campbell. The score of the first was 21-17 and the score of the second was 21-18. Kelly and Callahan would lose their match against Coastal's Schwanbech and Melton in two sets. The Score of the first was 21-17 and the score of the second was 21-13.

The Mercer Bears fell to Georgia State 0-5 at the Day of Duals.
Polychrones and Paddock would lose their match against GSU's Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary. The score of the first set was 21-15 and the score of the second was 21-13. O'Mara and Hardie would battle hard against GSU's Saga and Dorn. They would drop the first set 21-15. The Bears were not done fighting though, they would force extra points in the second set but would lose it 26-24. Benson and Thomas-Warren would lose their match to GSU's Kuck and Bordis in two sets. The score of the first was 21-15 and the socre of the second was 21-11. Scoggins and Engel would lose their match against GSU's Delmonte and Johnson in two sets. The score of the first was 21-14 and the score of the second set was also 21-14. Hood and Corbett would battle and come up short against GSU's White and Vuorinen. The score of the first was 21-15 and the score the second was 21-14. Jordan Morris and Emily Earwood would force GSU's Zimovan and Drysdale into three set match. The Bears would win the first 17-21 but would lose the second 21-13. The Bears would drop the final set 15-13.
"I was impressed with how we came out against Florida State." Said coach Marsh. "They are currently ranked number four in the nation and across-the-board we didn't show too much hesitation in our effort and play. We forced two games into extra innings, 25-23 and 22-20, that is great growth for our program, and I'm excited to see things continue to improve throughout the next few weekends."
UP NEXT: The Bears will Travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama on the weekend of March 18 and 19 to play in the March of May Tournament.
