
Third Quarter Comeback Leads to Bears Victory

MACON, Ga. – Mercer Men's Lacrosse team battled against Robert Morris and came out on top in a 9-8 game on Saturday, April 1. Ryan Danehy and the Bears move to 4-7 on the season and 3-2 in ASUN conference play. Robert Morris moves to 4-5 on the season and 1-3 in ASUN play.
Six Bears scored in the afternoon. Senior attackman Carl Klepper led the way for the Bears with three goals. Junior Midfield Matt O'Connor had two goals on the afternoon. Senior attackman Parker Junod, junior attackman Jack Parolin, senior midfielder Kyle Cox, and junior attackman Taylor Dooley each added a goal for the Bears.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior midfielder Kyle Cox would open scoring for the Bears in the first quarter off a dodge where Cox was able to free his hands and score. Sophomore LSM Quinn Kelley would find an open Carl Klepper on the wing for a 10-yard step-down shot which found the back of the net, bringing the Bear's lead to two. The Colonials would answer five minutes later with a goal of their own. They would tie the game at 2-2 and that would be the score for the first quarter.
Carl Klepper would find his second of the day off the Dean Draughn's assist. The Colonials would answer a minute later tying the game up at 3-3. The Colonials would score again before halftime making the score 4-3 heading into the half.Â
Junior attackman Jack Parolin would tie the game off a pump fake shot which freed up space for a step-down that found the corner of the net. However, Robert Morris would find the back of the net twice before the Bears would answer again. This time from senior midfielder Matt O'Connor, who would score an unassisted goal to bring the Colonial lead to one. Senior attackman Parker Junod would make the game level, off an assist from Michael Frederick. The score heading into the final quarter was 6-6.Â
Klepper would complete his hat trick at the start of the fourth quarter off the assist from Parker Junod. The Colonials would answer three minutes later, bringing the game back to even. Quinn Kelley would find Taylor Dooley on the doorstep to bring the Bears to lead to one. Matt O'Connor would score another unassisted goal to increase the lead to two with four minutes left in the game. The Colonials were not finished and scored one a minute later to make the Bears lead one. With less than 53 seconds remaining in the game Joseph Annetta would secure a caused turnover for the Bears. That caused turnover would help secure the 9-8 win for the Bears!
