Bears Earn Commanding 22-6 Win Over High Point

Urey scored career-high seven goals, Bears reach 20-goal mark again
MACON, Ga. – Shannon Urey scored a career-high seven goals and Mercer women's lacrosse overcame a bit of a slow start to earn a dominant 22-6 win over High Point on Saturday afternoon from Five Star Stadium.
After falling behind early 4-1, Mercer outscored High Point 21-2 for the rest of the game as the Bears have scored 20+ goals in back-to-back games to open Big South play.
Mercer outshot High Point 41-15 including a 33-12 shots on goal advantage.
Mercer took advantage of a Panthers team that struggles with draw controls as Mercer had a 21-10 edge in draw controls. The Bears also made it difficult on the Panthers in their clears, as High Point was just 13-21 (61.9%) on its clears.
Urey scored a career-high seven goals, pushing her season total to 43 goals to lead the Big South. Erin Degnan had a complete all-around game for the Bears, scoring a season-high four goals to go with one assist, seven draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Emma Pizzo also had seven draw controls for the Bears to go with four caused turnovers and two ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Erin Degnan won the opening draw control and scored immediately after to give the Bears a 1-0 lead nine seconds in. High Point responded with the next four goals to take a 4-1 lead.
Gabby DiVirgilio scored the first of nine unanswered goals for the Bears and Urey scored her third goal of the game with eight minutes to play in the second and suddenly Mercer led 10-4.
Mercer closed the first half on a 5-0 run sparked by two goals from Degnan to put the Bears up 15-5 at halftime.
Urey scored the first four goals for the bears in the second half to give her seven goals for the game. Caroline Glus scored a free position goal and Jordan Bramble scored for the second consecutive game to give the Bears a 22-6 win.
