Shannon Urey set a single-game school record with 11 goals
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Shannon Urey set a Mercer single-game goal record with 11 goals and Mercer held off a third quarter Wofford comeback to defeat the Terriers 21-10 Wednesday evening at Gibbs Stadium.
With the win, the Bears move to 5-0 in conference play and remain perfect on the road at 7-0.
Urey's 11 goals breaks the previous Mercer record of nine goals held by Lindsey Zeltwenger since 2017. It is also the most goals scored by any player in Big South history and is the most goals scored in a game by any Division I women's lacrosse player this season.
The Bears once again outshot their opponent by a large margin as shots were 42-14 in favor of the Bears. In a matchup of the top two draw control teams in the conference Mercer held a 20-13 advantage in that department.
Lyndsey Lewis had a hat trick for her second consecutive game and Gabby DiVirgilio also had a hat trick, her first of the season.
Emma Pizzo had five draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Kayla Soltys led Mercer with seven draw controls for the second consecutive game.
