Joins after five years at Notre Dame
MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's basketball head coach Greg Gary announced the signing of graduate transfer Robby Carmody from Notre Dame for the 2023-24 season.
"I am looking forward to coaching Robby," Gary said. "All he cares about is winning. He is a physical guard with size that can score and make plays for others. He has ultimate toughness and comes from a tremendous family."
Robby Carmody
6-4 Guard
Mars, Pennsylvania
Notre Dame / Mars Area High School
Carmody joins the Bears after five years at Notre Dame. He made his collegiate debut as a freshman against UIC in November 2018, recording a season-high 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals. He went on to play in nine games total that season before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
At the start of his sophomore season, Carmody appeared off the bench to score a career-high 13 points in the 2019-20 home opener against Robert Morris. He suffered a season-ending ACL injury and underwent surgery in December 2019.
The Mars, Pennsylvania, native faced another injury setback leading up to the 2020-21 season, suffering a broken knee cap in his surgically repaired knee, requiring him to miss the entire season.
Carmody made his first appearance back from injury in over two years in Notre Dame's win over Pittsburgh on March 5, 2022. During his fifth year at Notre Dame, Carmody played in six contests.
In high school, Carmody was named the 2018 Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year and a 2018 Pennsylvania Mr. Basketball Finalist. He led Mars Area to the 2018 WPIAL Class 5A title game and was named the 2018 Tribune Review Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Carmody played in the 2018 Capital Classic all-star game and traveled to Italy in 2017 as part of a Junior International Tour. Ranking No. 81 in the final ESPN Class of 2018 player rankings, Carmody averaged 31.1 points, 14.1 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 1.6 blocks during his senior season, and finished his career at Mars Area with 2,390 points and 1,216 rebounds.
