
Koury, Pizzo and Vanderlinde Named To Academic All-District Team

Accolade recognizes student-athletes who excel on and off the field
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's lacrosse players Emma Pizzo, Maddi Koury, and Kate Vanderlinde were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
The honor is given to student-athletes nationwide who excel athletically and academically. To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or important reserve on the team while playing in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
This season, Koury was named to the All-Conference Second Team for the second time in her career. She finished the season with 30 goals and 33 assists for 63 points. She finished in the top four on the team in goals, assists, and points. Her 33 assists led the team and tied for third most in the Big South.Â

Koury scored at least one goal in 13 of the 17 games this season. She had a career-high five goals in the win over Manhattan. She also had 26 ground balls, third most on the team and six caused turnovers. Koury finished her junior year this season and holds a 3.836 GPA and is majoring in accounting.
Pizzo was named First Team All-Conference for the third consecutive season along with Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Year. She led Mercer in ground balls (48) and caused turnovers (41).
Her 41 caused turnovers also led the Big South and ranked 11th in the country. She also finished third on the team with 53 draw controls. While performing on the field, Pizzo was working toward earning her Master in Business Administration which she earned following the spring semester. She finished with a 3.950 GPA during her masters.
Vanderlinde earned her first career First Team All-Conference recognition this season. Vanderlinde came up big for the Bears in key moments in games such as the regular season finale at Campbell when she had a career-high 13 saves.

For the regular season, Vanderlinde had an 8.93 goals against average which led the Big South and ranked 10th in the country. She finished the year with a .420 save percentage. Vanderlinde was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks to conclude the regular season. In the spring, Vanderlinde graduated with a degree in cybersecurity and information science and technology and had a 3.695 GPA.
