
Cross Country Announces 2023 Recruiting Class

Bears sign seven student-athletes to class
MACON, Ga. – Mercer head cross country coach Josh Hayman has officially introduced the 2023 men's and women's cross country recruiting class heading into the 2023-24 season.
Hayman and the Bears welcome seven student-athletes to Macon, with three joining the men's team and four set to join the women's team. Five of the incoming student-athletes are transfers, including three graduate transfers.
Joining the men's cross country team for the 2023-24 season are Nick Frye, Henning Kunze, and River Livingston
Joining the women's cross country team for the 2023-24 season are Lexi Buhman, Patrycja Miazek, Sarah Myers, and Kamila Soja.
"I am very proud of this outstanding 2023-2024 class that will bolster our roster and immediately contribute to our cause." said Mercer head coach Josh Hayman. "Coming off our best year yet for both sides of the program, this group is going to be instrumental in continuing our success. I cannot wait to get started with these new Bears."
2023 Mercer Cross Country Newcomers:
Nick Frye
Archer Lodge, N.C. | Corinth Holders HS
Personal Bests: 800m – 1:56.0 | 1600m – 4:26 | 5k – 16:04
Nick Frye joins Mercer after running cross country and track and field at Corinth Holders High School in Archer Lodge, North Carolina. Frye's high school team were conference champions in the 2022 cross country season. His sophomore year he placed fourth in the 1600 at the conference championship and regional qualifier. His junior year, he finished fourth at the conference championship, 12th at regionals, 104th at states. In his senior year, Frye finished second at the conference championship, 9th at regionals, 24th at states. Frye plans to major in biochemistry and molecular biology and would like to go to medical school.

Henning Kunze
Kronshagen, Germany | Wingate University
Personal Bests: 1500m – 3:58 | 5k – 15:04 | 8k – 24:52

Henning Kunze is a graduate transfer from Wingate University. In his career at Wingate, Kunze was All-Region as a freshman in 2019 and All-Conference First Team in 2022. He was a part of two cross country conference championship teams at Wingate in 2021 and 2022. Academically, Kunze is planning on earning his MBA at Mercer.

Personal Bests: 8k: 27:05

River Livingston joins Mercer as a sophomore after spending his freshman season at Valdosta State. In high school, he was a 4A regional champion in cross country his junior and senior years along with a regional champion in track his junior year. Livingston plans to major in biology at Mercer.

Lexi Buhman
Marysville, Wash. | Lake Stevens HS
Personal Bests: 1600m – 5:32 | 3200m – 11:35 | 5k – 19:08

Lexi Buhman will make the travel from the west coast to the east coast to join Mercer this upcoming season. Buhman a native of Marysville, Washington grew up with four siblings. She ran cross country for four years and track for three years in high school. Buhman earned MVP at a meet in her junior season. Buhman plans to major in Kinesiology and wants to be a collegiate distance coach in her future.

Patrycja Miazek
Warsaw, Poland | North Park University
Personal Bests: 5k – 18:16 | 6k – 22:40 | 10k – 37:45Â
Patrycja Miazek joins Mercer after graduating from Division III North Park University in Chicago, Illinois in the spring of 2023. At North Park Miazek has been named women's cross-country Student-athlete of the Week in 2021 and 2022. She was a member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Elite 25 in 2021 and 2022. She was a two-time All-Conference performer and a two-time Academic All-conference student-athlete. North Park named Miazek as Female Sportsperson of The Year in 2022. At Mercer, Miazek plans to earn her MBA with entrepreneurship and innovation concentration.

Sarah Myers
Sugarloaf, Pa. | Saint Joseph's University
Personal Bests: 5k – 17:43 | 6k – 21:57 | 10k – 37:39

Sarah Myers joins Mercer after graduating from Saint Joseph's where she ran cross country during her four years there. Myers walked on to the team at Saint Joseph's, eventually becoming a team captain and the Hawks' top runner during the 2021 season. Her junior track season in 2022, she was the top distance runner for Saint Joseph's in the 1500, 3K, 5K, and 10K. Myers was an Atlantic 10 and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifier during her career with the Hawks.

Kamila Soja
Chicopee, Mass. | Nova Southeastern University
Personal Bests: 5k – 17:06 | 6k – 21:39 | 10k – 34:49

Kamila Soja arrives at Mercer as a junior after spending her first two seasons at Division II Nova Southeastern University. Soja was named a NCAA Division II Second Team All-American this past season for her ninth-place finish in the 10k at the Division II National Championships. In the 2022 season, she finished third in the Sunshine State Conference championships and in the All-Regional. Her personal best time in the 6k of 21:39 at the NCAA Division II South Region Championship broke the school record at Nova Southeastern. She finished in second place and advanced to the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships. Soja plans to major in biology at Mercer.
