Mercer scored three goals in a span of less than four minutes

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears scored three second half goals in a span of less than 4 minutes on its way to a 4-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Sunday afternoon from Betts Stadium.

Mercer (1-0-1) earned its first win of the season dropping MVSU to 0-2-0 on the season. Once again the Bears greatly outshot their opponent, as they put 17 of their 27 shots on goal to just two shots on goal for MVSU.

Sophomore forward Jada Moorman opened the scoring for Mercer in the 35th minute, redirecting a cross from Kendall Cook past the MVSU goalie to put Mercer in front. In the second half the goals came in a flurry. Cook curled in a beautiful left-footed shot over the MVSU goalie to give Mercer a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later, Lana Whitfield blasted a shot to the upper 90 inside the box to make it 3-0, Mercer. Then, freshman Larkin Thomason scored her first career goal in the 74th minute tapping home a cross that was tipped by the MVSU goalie.

Up next, Mercer travels to Atlanta to play Georgia State on Thursday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
