SERIES HISTORY
Georgia State leads the all-time series 6-4-3. Mercer is 1-5 in games played at Georgia State. The two teams last met last season in Macon. The game finished in a 2-2 draw.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer earned its first win of the season, defeating Mississippi Valley State 4-0 from Betts Stadium. Once again the Bears greatly outshot their opponent, as they put 17 of their 27 shots on goal to just two shots on goal for MVSU.
Sophomore forward Jada Moorman opened the scoring for Mercer in the 35th minute, redirecting a cross from Kendall Cook past the MVSU goalie to put Mercer in front. In the second half the goals came in a flurry. Cook curled in a beautiful left-footed shot over the MVSU goalie to give Mercer a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later, Lana Whitfield blasted a shot to the upper 90 inside the box to make it 3-0, Mercer. Then, freshman Larkin Thomason scored her first career goal in the 74th minute tapping home a cross that was tipped by the MVSU goalie.
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
Last season, Georgia State finished 9-7-5 overall and went 3-5-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.Â
Through two games this season, Georgia State is 2-0 and coming off a 3-0 home win over Murray State on Sunday. The Panthers have outscored their first two opponents 15-0 which so far is the best goal differential among all 14 teams in the Sun Belt.
Freshman Aaliyah Faddoul leads the team and Sun Belt with four goals through two games. Senior Brooke Hart is right behind her with three goals on the year. The Panthers have put 26 shots on goal over their first two games which is second most in the Sun Belt.
Georgia State was picked to finish sixth in the 14-team Sun Belt Conference in the preseason. The Panthers had two players named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team in midfielder Elena Diaz and defender Eva Diez Lois.
