Men’s Soccer Welcome’s VMI for SoCon Opener

MACON, Ga. –The Mercer Men's soccer team will welcome VMI to Betts Stadium in Macon, Georgia on Saturday, September 30 at 1 p.m. ET. This will be the opening Southern Conference game for both, Mercer and VMI.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
This will be the eighteenth meeting between these two programs. Mercer is currently 17-0 against VMI. The last time these two programs met, the Bears knocked VMI out of the SoCon Tournament following a 2-1 victory in Johnson City, Tennessee
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer moves to 4-1-4 on the season, following a draw against Utah Valley. The Bears defense showed out tonight against the Wolverines, Fullbacks Natnael Mcdonald and William Pondeca were an important part to the success of the defense on Saturday night. Along with the fullbacks, center defenders Sekou Agard and Chad Eldridge were winning many balls out of the air and making huge tackles that slowed the Wolverines players down. The best opportunity for the Bears came in the 72nd minute off the right foot Carlos Santamaria. Santamaria's 25-yard shot deflected off the crossbar and hit the back of the Utah Valley goalkeeper and deflected of the post back into the goalie's hands. The Bears continued to pressure the Wolverines, up until the final whistle.
SCOUTING VMI
Last season VMI finished 2-14-1 and went 0-5-0 in the Southern Conference play.
Throughout nine games this season, the Keydets are 3-6 coming off a 5-1 win over Mary Baldwin on Tuesday, September 26. The Keydets earned its first Division 1 victory since 2014, following a 1-0 win against Radford on Tuesday September 19. WMI was selected to finished sixth in a six-team Southern Conference.
