Women's Golf Signs Emilia Väistö

Väistö will join the Bears in the fall of 2024
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's golf head coach Michele Drinkard has announced the signing of Emilia Väistö.
Väistö is a native of Seinäjoki, Finland. She will join the Bears in the fall of 2024.
Mercer has had recent success with players from Finland and Väistö continues the pipeline of Finnish players to play for the Mercer's women's and men's golf programs. Other current and former players from Finland who have played for the Bears include: senior Camilla Järvelä, freshman Ella Mäki-Tanila, 2022 Mercer graduate Martin Plukka, and 2019 Mercer graduate Karina Kukkonen. Kukkonen has now gone on to play on the Ladies European Tour.
"Emilia is the total package, phenomenal ball striker, highly competitive, loves to play the game and we are excited that she is now a Mercer Bear," said coach Drinkard. "As a member of the Finnish National Team, Emilia has had the opportunity to compete in numerous ranked tournaments all over the world. With her experience she will have an immediate impact on our program this fall."
Väistö was the 2021 Finnish Amateur Champion and Finnish Player of the Year. She is currently ranked 424th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and is the No. 1 Finnish Player in the U21 rankings.
Väistö will join Mercer after competing as a member of the Finnish National Team where she played in tournaments against some of the best competition in the world.
Some of those tournaments include representing her home country of Finland in the 2023 World Amateur Team Championship in Abu Dhabi, the 2023 European Ladies Team Championship, the 2021 World Junior Girls Championship, and the 2021 and 2022 European Girls Team Championship.
Coach Drinkard and the women's golf team look forward to Emilia Väistö joining the team on campus this coming fall.
