
Bears Look For Another Home Win Saturday Against Western Carolina

Saturday's game between Mercer and Western Carolina is the 28th all-time meeting between the two programs. Mercer has dominated the series as the the Bears lead the series 26-1. Mercer won both regular season meetings last season by a combined 60 points.
SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA
Western Carolina is coming off a 9-21 season in 2022-23. The Catamounts went 2-12 in conference play.
Mercer won both regular season meetings last season by an average of 30 points. The Catamounts were picked to finish last in the Southern Conference (SoCon) preseason coaches poll.
Western Carolina is 0-3 in conference play, but nearly earned its first conference win of the season on Thursday, losing in the last seconds at Samford. Western Carolina ranks seventh out of eight teams in the SoCon in scoring offense and defense. However, the Catamounts are fourth in the conference in field goal percentage at 41.1 percent.
Western Carolina does a good job offensively of moving and sharing the ball as they average the second most assists per game in the SoCon at 13.94 per game. Junior guard Chelsea Wooten leads the Catamounts in scoring at 11.7 points per game. Forward Lonasia Brewer is the team's leading rebounder at 5.8 rebounds per game.

In addition to Jones, the story of the first half and majority of the game was Mercer's defense which held UNCG to just 20 points in the first half to open up an 18-point halftime lead. UNCG shot 33.3 percent from the field for the game and just 21.4 percent from three-point range
