SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's game between Mercer and Wofford is the 25th all-time meeting between the two programs. Mercer has dominated the series as the the Bears lead the series 20-4. However, Wofford won both meetings between the two teams last year.
SCOUTING WOFFORD
Wofford is coming off a 22-10 season in 2022-23. The Terriers went 10-4 in conference play and won the SoCon regular season title. Wofford won both meetings against Mercer last season, defeating the Bears by five in Macon and downing Mercer by six in the regular season finale.
The Terriers were picked to finish fourth in the eight-team Southern Conference (SoCon) preseason coaches poll.
Wofford is 2-1 in conference play, with wins over Western Carolina and Furman. The Terries lost their SoCon opener to UNCG by nine.
Wofford leads the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.97), field goal percent defense (36.0%), three-point attempts per game (25.4), three-point percent defense (22.3), three- pointers per game (7.6) and turnovers per game (13.1).
Wofford's three-point percentage defense ranks third in the nation, and its overall field goal defense is 28th. The Terriers shoot the 24th-most threes per game.
The Terriers have the second best scoring offense in the SoCon as they average 66.8 points per game. However, they rank last in the league in field goal percentage at 38.0 percent.
Wofford is led by Preseason SoCon Player of the Year, Rachael Rose who leads the conference in scoring (21.1 ppg), and assists (5.8 apg). She is also a great rebounding guard as she is second in the conference with 8.9 rebounds per game.
In addition to Rose, Maddie Heiss is the only other Terrier averaging double figures in scoring with 12.5 points per game. Freshman forward Evangelia Paulk leads the team and ranks fifth in the SoCon in rebounding at 7.4 rebounds per game.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer was dominant on the glass and forced Western Carolina into 24 turnovers as the Bears rolled to a dominant 78-44 win over Western Carolina Saturday afternoon from Hawkins Arena.
It was another balanced scoring attack for the Bears as all 11 players on the active roster scored. Four players scored in double figures led by Deja Williams' 12 points.
NEED TO KNOW
The Bears had a season high 53 rebounds and 27 offensive rebounds against Western Carolina. It's +23 rebounding margin was also a season high.
