MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's basketball team begins conference play Wednesday night at Chattanooga. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday's game between Mercer and Chattanooga is the 32nd all-time meeting between the two programs. Chattanooga leads the series 20-11. Chattanooga won both regular season meetings last season, one in overtime and the other by three points.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga is coming off a 20-13 season in 2022-23. The Mocs went 9-5 in Southern Conference play and earned the No. 2 seed in the SoCon Tournament. The Mocs went on to win the SoCon Tournament and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Chattanooga is led by second year head coach Shawn Poppie. The Mocs were picked as the preseason favorites to win the SoCon by the media and picked second by the coaches.
Chattanooga enters SoCon play with the best record in the conference after going 12-3 in non-conference play. The Mocs are 6-1 at home this season with its lone home defeat coming against Marshall.
Chattanooga is fourth in the conference in scoring at 64.3 points per game and third in scoring defense as they allow just 54.3 points per game. The Mocs have been efficient from the floor as they lead the SoCon with a 44.9 team field goal percentage.
Areas in which the Mocs rank at the bottom of the conference are steals and offensive rebounds. Chattanooga's leading scorer is grad transfer Jada Guinn.
Guinn ranks second in the conference in scoring at 17.9Â points per game.
The Mocs also have the reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year in Raven Thompson. This season Thompson is averaging 14.6 points per game and leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per game.
LAST TIME OUT
Playing in just her third game of the season, Summah Evans scored a career-high 26 points to help lead Mercer to a 70-54 win over Kennesaw State last Tuesday night in Hawkins Arena.
A strong first half from Mercer helped the Bears build an 18-point halftime lead which they would not relinquish in earning the win in its last non-conference game of the regular season. Mercer was 8-for-14 (57%) from three-point range on the night and defensively had a season best 15 steals.

Mercer and Chattanooga are the top two teams in the SoCon in three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.
