
Volleyball Falls To Samford On The Road

BIRMINGHAMÂ - The Mercer volleyball took their first loss in Southern Conference play tonight in a four set match against Samford at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala. The Bears won a close first set but were not able to rally back ultimately falling to the Bulldogs 3-1.
Lou Johnson and Skye Ekes led the offense for the Bears with 10 and 15 kills respectively. Brooke Phillips registered 31 assists and six digs while libero MeMe Davis added 18 digs and two assists. As a team, Mercer recorded 10 blocks and three service aces.
The Bears return to Hawkins Arena in just two days when they face the Paladins of Furman University on Saturday, Oct. 12. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Macon, Ga.

Mercer started off the set strong with a big block from Sophia Henry to give the Bears some life in a must-win fourth set. A kill by Skye Ekes gave the Bears a two-point lead but the Bulldogs grabbed the momentum and carried it through the remainder of the set and securing the match-win for Samford.  | |
