
Bears Host Furman For Alumni Weekend

MACON - The Mercer volleyball team returns to Hawkins Arena tomorrow night, Oct. 12, to host Furman University for their second conference match of the week. The Bears welcome back program alumni to Macon for alumni weekend festivities and to be recognized during the match for their contribution to the program.
Mercer is coming off of their first loss in conference play to Samford on Thursday night as they fell to the Bulldogs 3-1. The Bears currently sit at third place in the SoCon with a record of 3-1 and an overall season record of 13-4. Mercer also still leads the NCAA in total service aces for the second week in a row with 154.
Senior outside hitter Skye Ekes sits at second in the conference in kills with 247, averaging 3.69 per set across 67 sets played. Gia Padilla has posted six double-doubles throughout the season so far registering 160 kills and 154 digs. Brooke Phillips continues to put up impressive numbers with 615 assists, 48 service aces and 146 digs in 67 sets played.
Furman is off to a slow start in conference play with only one match under their belt due to damages caused by Hurrican Helene but have an overall record of 7-5. The Paladins defeated UNC Greensboro in five sets and will face Samford tonight in their second conference match of the season.
The Bears and Paladins will face off at 7 p.m. in Hawkins Arena tomorrow night. The match will not be streamed but live stats will be available along with live X updates provided by the Mercer athletics department.
