MACON – Six more seeded players slid into the second round of the singles tournament main draw, while the top-seeded doubles tandem fended off an opening-set loss to make it a clean sweep for seeded teams in the doubles main draw, to highlight Wednesday action at the Mercer Tennis Classic in north Macon.

Top-seeded Renata Zarazua surrendered just four games in easing past Ukrainian Valeriya Strakhova 6-1 and 6-4, while second-seeded Anna Blinkova won a 6-0, 6-2 matchup with American Madison Sieg. Fourth-seeded Maya Joint and fifth-seeded Ann Li both moved on via second-set retirements.

In doubles play, the top-seeded duo of Brazilian Ingrid Martins Gamarra and American Quinn Gleason yielded a 6-2 score in its opening set with unseeded Liv Horde and Madison Sieg, but knotted the match back up with a 6-0 second set and prevailed with a 10-5 tiebreaker. Second-seeded Sophie Chang/Katarzyna Kawa got a major push from unseeded Strakhova/Elvina Kalieva, but still won in straight sets – 7-5 and 6-4.

Thursday's action at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. with singles tournament play. Doubles quarterfinals matchups are slated to take the court at approximately 3 p.m.
