
Bears Drop Regular Season Finale To UNCG

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its final match of the regular season to UNCG, 5-2, Sunday afternoon from the Copelan Tennis Complex in Macon.
Mercer got off to a good start beginning with doubles. Tea Zivic and Sofiya Tsitavets played very well in a 6-1 win over UNCG's Kayley Bushnell and Sofia Somoano. On court one, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg won 6-4, over Sophia Cedeno and Ivet Sala-Sanchez of UNCG to clinch the doubles point. The match on court three went to a tiebreaker where Marie Bannmeyer and Jelena Gojkovic ended up with a 7-6(3) win over UNCG's Sydney Bly and Sara Kostic.
Five of the six singles matches went to three sets. Tea Zivic got things started when she won in three sets over UNCG's Sydney Bly, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. On court four, UNCG's Kayley Bushnell defeated Marie Bannmeyer, 6-2, 6-3. UNCG's Sara Kostic won in three sets over Sofiya Tsitavets, 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-0 which tied the match at two.
UNCG's Sophia Cedeno defeated Marina de Diego Quinones on court one, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. The match on court five was a battle between Antonia Schweigel and Sofia Somoano of UNCG. Ultimately, Somoano came away with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win to clinch the match for the Spartans.
The last singles match was on court six where UNCG's Ivet Sala-Sanchez defeated Ines Hömberg, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Up next for the Bears is the SoCon Tournament from Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Bears are the No. 7 seed and will play No. 2 ETSU on Thursday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. ET.
