Tennis Teams Open SoCon Tournament Play On Thursday

MACON – The Mercer men's and women's tennis teams will begin their respective postseason journeys on Thursday when the Bears pack up both of their shows and head to Chattanooga for the 2026 Southern Conference Tournament.

Fans unable to make the trip to southeast Tennessee can still follow all of the action in progress for free via live scoring links provided by the UTC athletics department. All 14 matches of the men's and women's tournaments will take place at the Champions Club.

Mercer's seventh-seeded women's team will take on second-seeded East Tennessee State (13-7) at 10 a.m. on Thursday in one of four simultaneous matchups in Chattanooga. The Bears (8-13) dropped a tough 5-2 home decision to the Buccaneers on March 26 in which they dropped a nailbiter in doubles play before raking in a pair of straight-sets singles victories.

The fourth-seeded Mercer men (9-12) are scheduled to battle fifth-seeded Furman (8-14) in a 1 p.m. tilt at the Champions Club. The Paladins, likewise, were on the better end of 5-2 decision in Macon on March 17. Furman swept through doubles play in that matchup, and then captured a trio of singles matchups in straight sets to clinch the final outcome.

Mercer has won its quarterfinal matchup twice in its last three SoCon Men's Tournament appearances, including a 4-0 shutout of The Citadel last year. The MU women, likewise, have captured their quarterfinals draw in two out of the last three tournaments, but faltered in their contest with fourth-seeded Western Carolina in the 2025 event.
