
Bears Road Trip To The Carolinas

MACON - The Mercer volleyball team hits the road for two SoCon matchups this weekend against UNC Greensboro and Wofford. The Bears currently sit at third place in the conference with a SoCon record of 4-1, sitting behind Wofford and Samford who both have a record of 5-1.
For the third week in a row, Mercer leads the nation in service aces with 161. Brooke Phillips is leading the charge for the Bears and the conference with 49 service aces of her own. Skye Ekes currently has 259 kills on the season so far averaging 3.7 kills per set along with 24 service aces. Senior middle blocker Skyler Bumpers has been dominant at the net for the Bears with a total of 50 blocks throughout 69 sets played.
UNC Greensboro currently sits at the bottom of the rankings in the conference with an overall record of 6-12 and a conference record of 1-5. The Spartans defeated Western Carolina 3-1, but fell to top conference teams like Wofford and The Citadel. Wofford on the other hand, is having an outstanding season so far with an overall record of 13-5 and a conference record of 5-1, suffering a 2-3 loss to The Citadel but grabbing a win from second place Samford. The Terriers also made history by defeating #15 ranked Tennesse in five sets at their home arena.
First serve for the match against UNC Greensboro is schedule for 6:00 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 18. The Bears will then travel down to Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, Oct. 19, to face Wofford at 6:00 p.m. at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The match against UNC Greensboro will be streamed on ESPN+ but the match against the Terriers will not be streamed due to a scheduling conflict.
