SPARTANBURG - The Mercer volleyball team defeated the first place ranked team in the conference to move to 6-1 in conference play and 16-4 overall. Five different Bears recorded double-digit, combining for a team total of 55 kills in the victory.

Skye Ekes and Skyler Bumpers both recorded 11 kills a piece, tying for the match-high. Gia Padilla registered another double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs with MeMe Davis adding 25 of her own digs. Brooke Phillips led the match with 45 assists and five service aces to lead the Bears past the Terriers. Sophia Henry and Lou Johnson tallied 10 kills each, dominating at the front line for Mercer.

The Bears return back to Hawkins Arena next weekend for a match against The Citadel on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. and will face Western Carolina the next day, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 20-25	The two squads exchanged leads for the first few points of the game until the Terriers broke away with a 10-6 lead. Kills by Bumpers and Ekes put the Bears within reach but it was not enough to top the Terriers.
SET 2 I 25-20	Mercer fought back from a 15-10 deficit to even the score 17-17 after a kill from Henry. The Bears continued to add points to their score extending the lead 23-18, setting up Lou Johnson with the opportunity to secure the set win with a kill.
SET 3 I 25-23	The Bears attacked early with a 4-0 lead on the Terriers. Wofford fought back from a 15-20 deficit to come back within one point at the 22-23 mark but Gia Padilla closed out the set with a kill of her own.
SET 4 I 25-17	Sophia Henry dominated on the front line recording 4 kills in the fourth set including a kill at the 16-10 mark to take the game out of Wofford's hands. Back-to-back kills from Johnson and Ekes shut the door on the Terriers, defeating the first place team.
