Lindsay Bell had a career high 11 saves in goal for the Bears
MACON, Ga. – Lindsay Bell put together one of the best games in goal in her career as a Bear Thursday night, as she made a career high 11 saves to help guide the Bears to a 2-0 win at home over Chattanooga from Betts Stadium.
In Mercer's first conference win at home of the season it was the Mocs who had the better of possession, but the Bears put away two scoring chances to earn the three points. Chattanooga's possession led to a season high 24 shots with 11 on goal, but Mercer defended well by not allowing many quality scoring chances and Bell was up to the task in goal.
The first goal of the game came in the 63rd minute and was a first-class goal from Sara Engels who took a pass back from Larkin Thomason, took a few touches and took a left-footed shot from outside the box that hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced over the line for the game's opening goal.
Bell came up with a few more saves throughout the second half to keep the Bears ahead, 1-0. Then, in the 86th minute, Thomason was tripped from behind in the box. She stepped up and buried the penalty kick for her career-best 12th goal of the season to all but put the game away for Mercer.
