| MERCER/WESTERN KENTUCKY SERIES | |
| Western Kentucky leads the all-time series, 3-1, and used a 42-percent shooting effort in the fourth quarter to post a 70-64 comeback victory over the Bears last season in Bowling Green, Ky. WKU won each of the first two meetings in the series, including a series-opening 67-62 victory in the 2017 Georgia State Thanksgiving Classic, but the Bears got on the board with a 71-54 road win during the 2020-21 campaign. The Lady Toppers posted a 75-62 triumph over MU on Nov. 8, 2019, in the only Macon matchup between the two squads. | |
| SCOUTING WESTERN KENTUCKY | |
| The Lady Toppers returned three starters and two other letterwinners off of last season's 15-17 squad that finished in a tie for sixth in Conference USA's final regular season standings. Among the returnees is senior guard Alexis Mead who was the only 32-game starter for WKU last year and the only Lady Topper selected to the Preseason All-CUSA squad. WKU opened its season with a 12-point win at Indiana State, and moved to 2-0 with a 104-49 home rout of Kentucky State on Saturday. | |
| COACH HEARD/WESTERN KENTUCKY TIES | |
| Mercer head coach Michelle Clark-Heard led Western Kentucky to a 154-47 clip across six seasons (2014-18) and made six postseason appearances (4 NCAA Tournaments). With Clark-Heard at the helm, WKU captured four conference tournament and two regular season championships, and she became the second-fastest Lady Topper coach to reach 100 victories with the program. She earned Conference USA Coach of the Year laurels following a 30-5 season in 2014-15. | |
| LAST TIME OUT | |
| Florida Atlantic scored 20 points off of 25 turnovers and shot better than 45 percent in the opening half to key a 58-48 victory over visiting Mercer on Saturday in Boca Raton, Fla. Senior Ashlee Locke led all scorers with a career-high 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Locke also pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds to tack up her second double-double of the season in as many outings. | |
| ON DECK | |
| Mercer will close out its two-game home stand on Sunday when the Bears take on North Carolina A&T (0-2) in Hawkins Arena. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. | |
