Mercer Rolls On Day 1 Of Wofford Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer men's tennis team steamrolled its way through singles play against UNC Asheville, and then captured a pair of doubles matchups with the Bulldogs, to highlight opening-day action at the Wofford Invitational on Friday afternoon.

The Bears yielded just five games in doubles play as Amen Prince Gandonou/Hod'Abalo Isak Padio iced UNCA's Freddy Murray/Griffin Lovern by a 6-2 count, and Tom Hagelauer/Shingo Masuda topped Cian Ingles/Alex English, 6-3.

Singles action was something of awe for the Orange & Black as Esteban Davilla, Gandonou and Masuda all won in straight sets and three of their teammates used all three sets to come out on top. Cam Douthit provided the grit in singles play, rallying from a 6-2 loss in the first set with a 6-3 second set and a 6-0 third set to topple English.

MU will continue play at the 3-day event on Saturday when it takes on the host Terriers in both singles and doubles action. The Bears are scheduled to battle South Carolina State on Sunday.
