Mercer Hosts West Georgia Wednesday On Education Day

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer men's basketball team returns to home to Hawkins Arena Wednesday, Dec. 4 for its first home game in three weeks. The Bears will host West Georgia on Wednesday with an early tip-off time of 11 a.m.

SERIES HISTORY Wednesday's game will be the fifth all-time meeting between Mercer and West Georgia. The Bears lead the series, 3-1. The two teams haven't met since 1972.

LAST TIME OUT
Ahmad Robinson scored 19 points to lead all scorers, but Mercer dropped its game to Miami (Ohio), 75-72 last Tuesday in the Fort Myers Tip-Off championship game from Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

The Bears shot 27-of-62 (44%) from the field compared to the RedHawks who went 27-of-53 (51%) from the field. Mercer outrebounded Miami (Ohio) 32-27, including a 13-6 offensive rebounding edge. Neither team was very efficient from three-point range as both teams shot below 30 percent from deep for the game.

NEED TO KNOW
Freshman Brady Shoulders enters Wednesday's game coming off two strong games at the Fort Myers Tip-Off. Shoulders scored a career high 14 points against Miami (Ohio) and for the tournament averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game.

SCOUTING WEST GEORGIA
West Georgia is in it's inaugural season as an NCAA Division I program. The Wolves have had a rough start to their season as they are still looking for their first win of the year as they enter Wednesday's game with an 0-9 record. The Bears will be the second consecutive SoCon opponent for West Georgia who is coming off an 86-65 loss at Samford last Friday.

For the Bears, this is the first of back-to-back games against ASUN opponents as part of the newly introduced SoCon/ASUN challenge in which each team from each league will play two regular season games against an opponent from the other conference.

Through nine games this season, West Georgia is averaging 63.2 points per game and allowing 79.3 points per game. The Wolves are looking to get their offense going as they have scored more than 65 points in just two of their nine games this season. West Georgia ranks near the top of the ASUN in blocked shots per game, averaging 4.0 per game.

West Georgia's leading scorer is Shel Williams-Dryden who is also the third leading scorer in the ASUN averaging 17.2 points per game. He also leads the ASUN in rebounding at 8.0 boards per game.
