
Mercer Earns 4-1 Win Over Army On The Road

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Mercer women's tennis team earned its second road win on the young season, defeating Army 4-1 Saturday afternoon in West Point, N.Y.
The Bears defeated a strong Army team that last season had made it to the championship match of the Patriot League Tournament. The Black Knights entered Saturday's match undefeated at home at 7-0 on the season. Six of those seven wins coming by a score of 4-0.
Mercer won all three doubles matches on the day. Lea Falentin and Emilia Coasatto had a strong showing as they defeated Army's Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile, 6-0.
Mariella Minetti and Tea Zivic won 6-1 over Army's Emma Sy and Ylan Duong. The doubles match on court one between Mercer's Teodora Ristic and Marina de Diego Quinones and Army's Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans went unfinished with Ristic and de Diego Quinones leading 4-3.
In singles action, Mercer won three of four matches. Ristic defeated Army's Jenna Sabile in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. On court four Lea Falentin defeated Army's Paige Herremans 6-2, 6-4. Tea Zivic was dominant in the second set of her singles match, defeating Army's Naomi Widiaman, 6-4, 6-0.
Army's lone win on the day came from Emma Sy who defeated Mercer's Mariella Minetti, 6-2, 6-1.
Two singles matches went unfinished with the Bears having clinched the win. The match between Marina de Diego Quinones and Army's Ylan Duong went unfinished after two sets with de Diego Quinones winning the first set 6-3, followed by Duong winning the second set 6-4.
The other singles match that went unfinished was the match between Mercer's Emilia Cosatto and Army's Isabel Brilliant. Cosatto won the first set 6-4, followed by Brilliant winning the second set 6-2. Cosatto was leading 2-1 in the third set before the match was called.
Mercer will take to the courts again on Sunday in West Point, New York. The Bears will play against Georgetown.
