
Women's Tennis Drops Match To Georgetown, 4-2

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match to Georgetown, 4-2, Sunday from West Point, New York.
The Bears started out the day with a win in doubles as Mariella Minetti and Tea Zivic defeated Georgetown's Ashley Kennedy and Morgan Coburn, 6-2.
Mercer dropped its other two doubles matches which were close contests. Georgetown's Chloe Bendetti and Katie Garafolo-Ro defeated Mercer's Teodora Ristic and Marina de Diego Quinones 6-4. The final doubles match of the day was a close, competitive match that went to Georgetown's Tatiana Zelenko and Olivia Ashton who defeated Mercer's Lea Falentin and Emilia Cosatto, 7-5.
Five of the six singles matches finished with Georgetown taking three of the five singles matches. Georgetown's Willy Avantika defeated de Diego Quinones, 6-3, 6-1. On court three Georgetown's Emily Novikou defeated Minetti, 6-3, 6-4.
Mercer won its first singles match of the day when Mercer's Lea Falentin defeated Georgetown's Paige Gilbert. Falentin won the first set 6-4, followed by a 7-5 win in the second set.
The Bears made it two wins a piece in singles matches when Teodora Ristic followed up Falentin's win by defeating Georgetown's Chloe Bendetti, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Georgetown clinched the win on court five in another close match that went three sets as Georgetown's Ashley Kennedy defeated Cosatto, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Tea Zivic's match against Morgan Coburn of Georgetown went unfinished in the third set with Coburn leading 5-2 in the third set.
The Bears will return home to play its next match against Georgia Southern on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
