Mercer Hosts Georgia Southern Wednesday

MACON - After a trip to New York for a pair of matches, the Mercer women's tennis team is back in Macon on Wednesday to play Georgia Southern. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center and admission is free.

Mercer (3-2) split its matches in New York. The Bears defeated Army, 4-1 on Friday. It was an Army team that last season had made it to the championship match of the Patriot League Tournament. The Black Knights entered Saturday's match undefeated at home at 7-0 on the season, but the Bears were able to come out with the win. Mercer dropped competitive match on Sunday to Georgetown, 4-2.

Georgia Southern has played well so far this season as they enter Wednesday's match with a 6-1 record. The Eagles are coming off their first loss of the season, 6-1 at Clemson last Saturday. Mercer and Georgia Southern have played two common opponents this season in Stetson and Bethune-Cookman. Mercer went 1-1 against those teams while Georgia Southern defeated both including a tight, 4-3 win over Stetson.

Mercer and Georgia Southern did not play against each other last season. The last meeting between the two programs was in the spring season of 2022. Georgia Southern defeated Mercer 4-3 in Statesboro, Georgia.
