
Holt Perfect From Field In Mercer's Win Over The Citadel

MACON -Â Alex Holt went a perfect 11-for-11 on the way to scoring 23 points, as the Mercer men's basketball team (13-15, 6-9) cruised past The Citadel (10-18, 2-13), 87-78, at home on Wednesday evening.
The Bears had four players score in double figures, led by Jalyn McCreary who had 25 points and two blocks. Holt added a career-high 23 points and Jalen Cobb helped out with 15 points off of the bench.
Mercer out-rebounded Citadel 29-26 in Wednesday's game, led by five boards from Jake Davis.
How It Happened
After falling behind 16-12, Mercer went on an 8-0 run with 13:17 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Cobb, to take a 20-16 lead. The Bears then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 41-38 advantage. Mercer got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 16 of its 41 total points.
Mercer widened that lead following intermission, expanding it to 53-48 before going on a 9-0 run to grow the advantage out to 62-48 with 10:10 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still cruised the rest of the way for the 87-78 win. Mercer took care of business in the paint, recording 32 of its 46 points of the half in the lane.
