
Mercer's Second Half Run Leads To Dominant Win On Senior Day

MACON -- The Mercer men's basketball team (14-15, 7-9) got big scoring nights from seniors Jalyn McCreary and Robby Carmody in their final game in Hawkins Arena on the way to a 14-point victory against the UNC Greensboro Spartans (20-9, 11-5) on Saturday.
The Bears had four players score in double figures, led by Jake Davis, who had 21 points and two steals. Robby Carmody added 19 points and two steals off the bench and Jalyn McCreary chipped in as well with 19 points. Seventeen of McCreary's points came in the second half. He scored six straight Mercer buckets during a second-half scoring run.
The Mercer offense was very productive from deep, knocking down 10 threes on 21 attempts. Davis was the most prolific shooter for the Bears, draining five treys in the contest.
The Mercer defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 13 UNC Greensboro turnovers while committing nine. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Davis' two steals led the way individually for the Bears.
How It Happened
After falling behind 31-26, Mercer went on a 9-0 run with 4:32 left in the first half to take a 35-31 lead. The Bears then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 39-38.
After intermission, Mercer managed to gain control and had a 70-63 lead before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 77-63 with 3:28 to go in the contest. The Bears held onto that lead for the rest of the game for the 86-72 win.
