
Thomas Scores Career High In Loss To Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. --Â David Thomas put up 22 points, and the team gave up a season-low five turnovers, but the Mercer men's basketball team (14-16, 7-10) fell to the Chattanooga Mocs (20-10, 12-5) 84-75 on the road Wednesday.
Thomas added four assists to his career-high scoring game to lead the Bears. Jalyn McCreary helped out with 11 points and six rebounds and Caleb Hunter chipped in with 10 points. The team shot only 39.7 percent from the field but was a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.
Led by Alex Holt's three offensive rebounds, Mercer did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 17 boards that resulted in 23 second chance points.
How It Happened
The Bears took a 6-1 lead early in the game but suffered from a 13-0 Chattanooga run that put MU down ten points with 7:40 remaining in the first half. Mercer cut the lead to three but entered halftime down by eight points.
Chattanooga widened its lead after intermission, constructing a 65-53 advantage before Mercer went on a 7-0 run to shrink the deficit to 65-60 with 5:30 to go in the contest. Chattanooga responded and outscored the Bears the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 84-75.Â
