
Men's Basketball Closes Regular Season At Furman

MACON – Mercer men's basketball (14-16, 7-10) travels to Greenville to play Furman (16-14, 10-7) in the final game of the regular season on Saturday. Tipoff in Timmons Arena is at 2 p.m., and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
When the Bears and Paladins met earlier this season, Mercer snagged it's first win over FU since the 2015-16 season. Jalyn McCreary contributed 28 points and eight rebounds in the nine-point victory in Hawkins Arena. TJ Grant and Jalen Cobb each recorded three steals, season-highs for both Bears.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, All-Conference awards will be announced on March 6, and the Southern Conference Tournament will begin on March 8.

Chattanooga held a lead over Mercer for nearly 31 minutes of Wednesday's game. The Bears surrendered their last lead of 19-16 with 10:52 left in the first half, and the Mocs controlled the game from there on out. Mercer was a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line but committed 21 fouls compared to UTC's nine, giving the Mocs 23 points from the stripe. Freshman David Thomas led the offensive side of the ball for the Bears, scoring a career-high 22 points shooting 53.3 percent from the field. |
SCOUTING REPORT |
Furman has only played six games since the matchup in Macon and is 4-2 in those contests. Despite a 35-point performance from JP Pegues, Furman lost 85-77 to Western Carolina in Cullowhee on Wednesday. The score was tied at 61 with 7:37 left to play, but the Catamounts took over, leading by as many as 12 before the final buzzer. Pegues was named Southern Conference Player of the Week last week after averaging 26.5 points per game against Samford and Wofford. He scored the team's final 23 points against Samford. FU is second in the SoCon offensively, averaging 79.7 points per game. |
