MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will dive back into competition for the first time in nearly two weeks on Friday when the Bears slip on the Orange & Black to host 66th-ranked Stetson at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Start time has been scheduled for 2 p.m., and admission is free.
Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow the match for free via a live statistics link provided by the MU athletics department.
The Bears (1-7) are set to engage with an external foe for the first time since dropping a 4-0 neutral site decision to Georgetown on February 10 in West Point, N.Y. That match came less than a day after MU went toe-to-toe with Army before coming away with a 4-1 setback to the Black Knights.
Sophomore Nemanja Stefanovic continues to lead the way in singles action for the Bears, and will lug a team-best three singles victories into Friday afternoon's tilt on campus. Mercer's duo of seniors Samuel Barrow and Samuel MacLeod has recorded a pair of wins in the No. 3 doubles position, with two of their doubles tilts officially being recorded as unfinished.
The nationally-ranked Hatters (6-2) will ride a six-match win streak into Macon on Friday, and have surrendered just two points across that stretch. Stetson took down Air Force, 5-2, a week ago in their last action of the regular season campaign.
Stetson has dropped just one match at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles this season, while SU's tandem of Marc Saura and Juan Jose Rodriguez Garceran has logged a 4-1 clip in the No. 1 doubles position. Saura has also amassed a team-best four singles victories on court No. 5.
