
Davidson Presents First Road Test Of Season For Mercer On Saturday

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's lacrosse team travels to Davidson, North Carolina to play the Davidson Wildcats on Saturday in its first away game of the season.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be just the fourth all-time meeting between Mercer and Davidson. Davidson leads the series 2-1. The two teams met last season in Macon, where Davidson handed Mercer one of its three losses on the season as the Wildcats defeated the Bears, 20-14.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mercer women's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a slow start in its 21-8 season opening loss to Virginia Tech last Saturday at Five Star Stadium.
Virginia Tech jumped out to an early 9-1 lead in the first quarter and proved too much for the Bears to overcome.Virginia Tech outshot the Bears 34-20 with a 28-15 shots on goal advantage. The Hokies also had the advantage in the draw circle where they won 20-of-30 draws on the day. Kayla Soltys led the Bears offensively with three goals on five shots.Â
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
Davidson comes into the game with a 3-1 record. The Wildcats have won three straight after a season opening defeat at Clemson.
Last season, the Wildcats went 12-6 and 6-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. They lost to No. 13 UMass in the A10 Tournament semifinals.

This season, Davidson was picked to finish fourth out of 10 teams in the A10 Preseason Poll. They had three players named Preseason All-Conference in attacker Julianne Carey, midfielder Alli Hartnett, and defender Noelle Cegielski.

Davidson's wins this season have been by at least nine goals as they defeated, Winthrop, Stetson, and Coastal Carolina. Their scoring margin of +7.5Â is second to Richmond in the A10 and the 16th best scoring margin in the country.
Offensively, the Wildcats are averaging 16.5 goals per game on 31.8 shots per game. Defensively they are allowing 9.0 goals per game on 23.5 shots from opponents.
Davidson has three players averaging at least two goals per game so far this season. Freshman attacker Janna Skibe leads the team with 15 goals in four games. Junior attacker Riley Cochrane is tied with Skibe for the team lead in points with 15. Cochrane has nine goals and six assists.
In goal, junior Paige Doyle has a 9.86 goals against average and a 45.8 save percentage.
