WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Michael Frederick gave the Mercer lacrosse team a 1-0 lead just more than four minutes into the contest, but 5^th-ranked Army stormed ahead for good with two goals in the next 90 seconds on the way to a 15-7 victory over the Bears on Saturday at Michie Stadium.

Four different players scored goals for the Bears (1-3), including Frederick who nearly matched a career-best four scores. Senior Collin Kelley notched 15 saves between the pipes for MU.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Frederick opened the scoring for both teams with a goal at the 10:56 mark to give Mercer an early 1-0 lead.
Army responded with six goals across the rest of the first quarter, including two apiece from Gunnar Fellows and Will Coletti.
Four different Black Knights notched goals in the second period to give Army a 10-1 lead at the intermission.
The Bears and Black Knights split four goals in the third quarter, but Mercer outscored the hosts, 4-3, in the final stanza.
Michael Frederick scored twice in the final period, including the game's last score with 54 ticks left.

TOP BEARS

Sophomore Michael Frederick tallied four goals, the most for the Rehoboth Beach, Del., native since he tallied a career-best five scores against Detroit Mercy on March 18, 2023.
Senior Collin Kelley turned in 16 saves between the pipes. It is the third time this season that Kelley has notched 16 or more saves.

NOTABLES

Army has now captured both series matchups with the Bears. The Black Knights posted a 16-5 victory over MU at Five Star Stadium last year.
The Black Knights, a 2023 NCAA Tournament participant, have now won seven of their last eight outings dating back to last year.

UP NEXT

The Bears will take a two-week break from competition before resuming their 2024 regular season campaign on March 10 at Five Star Stadium. Start time is scheduled for noon.
