MACON – The Mercer men's and women's tennis teams will resume their respective 2024 spring schedule on Wednesday when the Bears lace up to host local rival Georgia College in a men's and women's quad meet. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center in south Macon. Admission is free.
Â
The Mercer women (5-3) are fresh off an unblemished weekend at home, including a 5-2 victory over Florda Gulf Coast – their first triumph over the Eagles in program history. The Bears rode that momentum into Sunday to fuel a 6-1 rout of Florida A&M at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
Â
Teodora Ristic has combined to register a team-best 11-1 record on the court this season, including a 6-1 mark at the No. 1 singles position, while fellow senior Lea Falentin has combined to register a 5-1 mark in singles action, including a perfect 2-0 mark since taking over duties on court No. 3. MU's duo of senior Mariella Minetti and freshman Tea Zivic are a perfect 6-0 at No. 3 doubles this spring.
Â
The Mercer men's team (1-9) has taken its fair share of lumps this season, but is fresh off of a competitive 5-2 setback to Stetson at home on Friday in which it fell on the short end of a pair of 3-set heartbreakers in singles play. The Orange & Black has registered a tough 1-5 clip this season in singles matches that progress to a third set, but sophomore Nemanja Stefanovic got MU off the mark in that category on Friday with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win over Stetson's Haris Eminefendic.
Â
Stefanovic has combined to post six wins on the court so far this spring, including a 4-6 record at the No. 1 singles position. The senior tandems of Samuel Barrow/Samuel MacLeod and Andrew Branicki/Lucas Dini have tallied a pair of wins at Nos. 3 and 1 doubles, respectively.
Â
The Georgia College women's team (6-4) has won four of its last five outings, and will ride a three-match win streak into Macon on Wednesday. Junior Spaniard Chiara Santoro has carried the load for the Bobcats in singles play as evidenced by a 7-1 record on court No. 2, while the duo of Ashley Bentz and Shradha Chhabra have posted six wins already at No. 1 doubles.
Â
On the men's side, GC (2-6) had won consecutive matches before dropping a 6-1 decision to Lincoln Memorial on Sunday. Three different Bobcats have tallied a pair of wins in singles play, while Jorge Robinson has posted a 5-2 mark in doubles play with various on-court partners.Â
